Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) involves the treatment of myofascial trigger points.
These are hyperirritable areas within muscle fibres, commonly called “knots” in muscles.
Trigger points are painful and they also
refer
pain, that is, they cause it to occur somewhere else in the body.
The pain can often be surprisingly far from the source. For example, trigger points in the neck can refer pain into the wrist.
Muscles containing trigger points are weak and they don’t function correctly (delayed neural responses etc),
which makes them susceptible to injury. NMT is highly effective in returning muscles to a healthy, supple, resilient state.
This can significantly reduce tension and pain, or eliminate it altogether.
NMT treatment may involve some discomfort but client feedback is always respected
and the treatment can be adjusted accordingly. Clients usually refer to the release of trigger points
as “good pain” because the relief outweighs the momentary discomfort.
Trigger points mimic the pain and debilitation of many disorders such as headaches, tinnitus,
TMJ problems, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, golfer’s elbow, lumbago, sciatica, digestive problems,
stress incontinence, hip restriction, runner’s knee, nocturnal leg cramps, plantar fasciitis…to name just a few.
If you are having problems with conditions like these, Neuromusclar Therapy can help.
